Competition Rules and Guidelines

Definition of "CREATIVE"

Over the past 4 years our club has grown and we have a lot of talented photographers who have been submitting
really great photos in our monthly competition. However with growth changes need to be made to keep our competitions
fair to all levels of photographers. January 2004 we added a class “A” category to our competitions so that the more
seasoned photographers were in a separate class than the amateurs. Modern technology has also advanced many
photographers to another level that our club feels that we need to provide a separate category so that all photos are
fairly judged. Effective January 2005 we added a “Creative Photography” category to our monthly competition,
for now “A” and “B” will be one until such a time that we feel we need to separate the two. The guidelines are as follows:

 1. Any photo that has objects added or taken out that were or were not there
     when the photo was taken.

 2. Any photo that has “Special Effects” added ……. Heavy saturation, monochrome print
with part of the photo colored, emulsion manipulation, cross processing of film,  etc…….

 3. Any photo with extreme color changes.

 4. Photos that have been “Sandwiched” or “Montages”.

 5. Images that have been altered in anyway except for necessary cropping
     or slight color adjustments.

These rules apply for film users as well as digital.

Competition is divided into 2 categories.

"A" is for most advanced or professional photographers,
"B" category for those who are not quite as advanced.

During the course of the year, award winning photos will earn points for the photographer who
enters images. When you earn a certain number of points during the year, you may be
moved into the "A" category and compete with other "A" photographers. Category
"B" photographers will compete within that category against other "B" category shooters.

This change has been done to encourage all members to participate in competitions
and monthly meetings. This should make it more fair and interesting for the more
casual photographers, rather than having to compete against professional
or more experienced photographers.

To help the club function a little smoother each meeting we are asking everyone to do the following:

1. If you are entering photos in the competition, please either have your photos labeled before you
arrive or please arrive at 6:30 to label your photos. Members arriving after 6:45 pm will be unable
to enter their photos in that months competition. This will enable the judges to start their task at 7:00
while we are having the general and educational meeting. Once we complete those meetings
then we will have time for the competition and critique.

2. Please allow the judges to have full uninterrupted access to the photos so that they can finish in a
    timely manner.

3. Please refer to the printed rules given to you at the time of joining. To be fair to everyone, we must
stick to the rules. The biggest items to pay attention to are print and mat sizes (16 x 20 maximum size),
label color and placement, and no print coverings (i.e.: glass, Plexiglas, plastic not allowed).
